Domaine Auriol was founded by Claude Vialade who is the daughter of the visionary winemaker Jean Vialade, who led the way in organic farming in the 1970s during his tenure at co-operative Ribaute Winery becoming the first in Europe to switch entirely to organic. Claude follows her fathers footsteps and is devoted to farm the vineyards in the most respectful way to the environment. In the 90s she formed Domaine Auriol which originated at the roots of the Alaric Mountains in Corbieres but now they have extended their project and hold 1500 hectares across the South of France.
Tasting Notes
This wine is a blend of Merlot and Grenache Noir. The vines for this wine are located along the Mediterranean coastline where the soils are formed mainly of alluvial deposits and also clay-limestone. Destemming and cold soaking develops the bright red fruit aromas in the wine. This wine is fermented again at lower temperatures to give freshness. On the nose there are notes of fresh strawberries and raspberries, with a violet floral character. The palate is very supple with fine tannins and flavours of soft red plums, chocolate and a hint of herbal spices which linger.
